February
18th Meeting
Planning and Remembering Trips
The
Chapter meeting on
Monday
evening, February 18th begins at 715pm at the Wegmans Market Café, Eastern
Boulevard, Canandaigua.
We begin a little early as
this meeting will allow you to bring items for sale or trade. It is our
annual Buy, Sell, Trade Night. No commissions, no table costs, all
proceeds to yourself. Check to see what you might have extra and would
like to convert to a little cash. Rods, reels, not-so leaky waders.
You name it. Fly fishing items for sale and reasonable prices.
TU members will then present a "round
table" type discussion on trip planning, distant and close by, as well as
recording and remembering the experience. Ideas, check lists, time lines
and other references are sure to be offered.
Please feel free to bring a friend (always welcome).
50-50 raffle with new prizes.

Notes From January
2008 Meeting
Jean Chaintreuil
(Chapter President) brought the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.
Visitors were invited to introduce themselves, about 8 guests stood up to say
hello.
Any visitors wanting to join the
Chapter, get our free newsletter, and participate in our events should see Norm
Brust
or contact him at
nbrust@rochester.rr.com.
Further
information on the Chapter can be found at
www.canandaigualaketu.org .
Jean reported that the Chapter has
been invited to help sponsor a TU Camp sponsored by the Binghamton Chapter, but
we will probably not participate since we already support a different special
Fly-Fishing School for young people every year.
Craig Dennison gave a short briefing
on two fly-fishing trips to the West Branch of the Delaware that he is arranging
for 2008. The first trip will be 29 to 31 May and the second 13 to 15 June.
Participants will be staying at the White house at the West Branch Anglers
Resort. Craig also handed out a flyer describing the two trips. Anyone wanting
further information or to make reservations should contact Craig at
craigdennison1@yahoo.com .
Al Kraus indicated he had Chapter
Patches available for sale for anyone who wanted one.
Jerry Luzum reported that 10 folks
where now taking the Fly-Tying School. The classes have been going very well,
but more Chapter Members are needed to help to mentor during each training
session. Jerry sent around a sheet for members to sign-up to help. If any
additional members want to help they should contact Jerry at
roni39@earthlink.net .
Steve Coleman talked about the
Chapter’s Annual Fly-Fishing School and asked all members to fill out the survey
regarding the School at the Chapter’s web site. Steve is looking for
recommendations regarding the content of the School and whether the School
should be conducted annually or biennially.
Dick Steinheider reported that the
Chapter will host an Advanced Fly-Tying Session on 1 March. The guest presenter
will be Craig Dennison who will cover some of his favorite Salt-Water Flies.
More information will be provided at a later date.
Jean asked if there were any fishing
“hot spots”. Not many reports where given, however, one member reported that a
section of the Oatka, about 1¼ mile below the bridge trestle at Stewart, is now
posted.
The regular raffle, which is held each
meeting, was conducted. Several members won various prizes: cash, flies, and
donated fly-fishing goodies.
Jean gave an overview of the next
meeting which will be held on 18 February 2008. This meeting will start at
7:15(versus the normal time of 7:30) to accommodate our annual Fly-Fishing Buy,
Sell, and Trade Session. After the Trade Session and regular meeting there will
be a presentation on how to plan for a great fly-fishing trip and record
memories that can be reviewed in the years ahead.
Jean adjourned
the business meeting and turned the podium over to Dick Steinheider who
introduced the guest speaker for the evening. Bob Hacker gave an outstanding
presentation regarding fishing in Alaska.
